Suggested Uses of Sorbitan Monooleate
. Acts as a lipophilic emulsifier in O/W emulsions, wetting agent for cosmetics and
pharmaceuticals.

Sorbitan Monoleate is a non-ionic surfactant that can be used to form oil-in-water emulsions and in combination with low HLB surfactants can form water-in-oil emulsions. EPA approved oil spill dispersant.
SMO is a low HLB surfactant suggested for use as a w/o emulsifier or as an o/w emulsifier for use in cosmetic formulations, oil field chemicals, plastics, household products, coatings and textiles. The liquid sorbitan ester explosive grade functions as a low HLB nonionic emulsifier. This product is well suited for a broad number of applications including emulsifier in explosives.
It is used as a wetting agent, coupling agent and dispersing agent in various products. In cosmetics, pharmaceutical creams, and various other personal care products, it is used as friction modifier and emulsifier. This clear viscous oily liquid is used for ethoxilation. An emulsifier Sorbitan monooleate is used as a lipophillic non-ionic surfactant, emulsifier, stabilizer for oil based lotions, ointments, in textiles as antistat, lubricant for fabric softener, sweetening agent, food additive, toothpaste, tobacco, toiletries and in cosmetics. It serves as a dispersant in oil field chemicals and as a corrosion Inhibitor. Further, it plays as an important role as excipient and intravenous osmotic diuretic in pharmaceutical fields
Span 80 is light yellow viscose oily liquid. Span 80 is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It is water/oil type emulsifier, which can be mixed with emulsifier S60 and emulsifier T60. HLB: 4.3.

! Accidental ingestion of the material may be damaging to the health of the individual.
! Overexposure is unlikely in this form.
! Nonionic surfactants may produce localized irritation of the oral or gastrointestinal lining and induce vomiting and mild diarrhea.
EYE
! There is some evidence to suggest that this material can causeeye irritation and damage in some persons.
! Non-ionic surfactants can cause numbing of the cornea, which masks discomfort normally caused by other agents and leads to corneal
injury.
Irritation varies depending on the duration of contact, the nature and concentration of the surfactant.
SKIN
! The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified using animal models).
Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational
setting.
! Repeated exposure may cause skin cracking, flaking or drying following normal handling and use.
! Open cuts, abraded or irritated skin should not be exposed to this material.
! Entry into the blood-stream, through, for example, cuts, abrasions or lesions, may produce systemic injury with harmful effects.
