As a liquid, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate does not cause troublesome dusting in processing.

Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate combines a good cleansing action with relatively weak degreasing. 

Thus for the manufacture of hair shampoos and body cleansing products Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is often best combined as mild Co-surfactant with alkyl ether sulphates.

Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (INCI), also known as sarkosyl, is derived from sarcosine, which makes it fat-free and biodegradable. 

The surfactant is amphiphilic due to the hydrophobic 12-carbon chain (lauroyl) and the hydrophilic carboxylate.

Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate is personal care products as well as in household and industrial applications, and it is used as a co-surfactant in cleanser formulations such as shampoos and body washes. 

It can also be used in oral care applications such as toothpaste and incorporated into syndet and combo bars. 

The typical usage levels range from 1-5% on an active basis.

Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate has good chlorine stability with anti-corrosion properties. 

Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate has excellent ocular tolerance and gentleness. 

Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate is often seen in shampoos, baths, cleansing, and shaving products as a foaming agent, surfactant, and hair conditioning agent. Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate can enhance the appearance and feel of hair by improving body, suppleness, and sheen, especially in hair that is chemically damaged. 

This ingredient also serves to clean skin and hair by mixing with oil and dirt and enabling them to be rinsed away. 

As a modified fatty acid, it is thought to be more soluble and has increased crystallinity and acidity compared to its original fatty acid composition.

Foaming behaviour

Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate has very good foaming properties, especially in soft water and displays interesting synergistic and foam-stabilising properties when combined with other surfactants, e.g. alkyl ether sulphates.

The foaming behaviour of Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate also depends on the pH of the finished product. 

It is usually worthwhile to adjust the formulations to a slightly acid pH of between 5.5 and 6.5, for instance with citric acid.

Foam stability over time is also considerably better in the weakly acid than in the alkaline pH range.

Compared with some other surfactants, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate has excellent foaming power in electrolyte-containing solutions.

Solubility and Compatibility

Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is soluble in water in any ratio and forms clear solutions.

Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate can be combined with other anionic surfactants commonly used in cosmetics and in some instances improves their skin compatibility.
