Myristic Acid

Myristic acid is a common saturated fatty acid with the molecular formula CH3(CH2)12COOH.

Myristic acid, also known as tetradecanoic acid, is a saturated fatty acid with 14 carbon atoms that has many industrial applications.

Myristic acid can be obtained from both vegetable oils and animal fats.

Myristic Acid is a renewable, vegetable based fatty acid that acts as an emollient in personal care products.

Myristic acid is typically used in soaps, creams, and lotion applications.

Myristic Acid, a saturated fatty acid consisting of 14 carbon atoms, plays a unique role in cellular processes as a substrate for certain fatty acid desaturases.

Commonly found in animal and vegetable fats, myristic acid is integral to various biological functions, including cell membrane formation, signal transduction, and energy metabolism.

Its synthesis from other fatty acids is crucial for generating a diverse range of products, such as pharmaceuticals, food additives, and cosmetics

Myristic acid, also known as tetradecanonic acid, is naturally occurring long-chain saturated fatty acid.

Myristic acid occurs naturally in palm kernel oil, nutmeg butter, coconut oil, bovine milk and some percentage in breast milk.

Commercially Myristic acid is obtained from coconut oil and other vegetable oils.

Myristic acid is available as a white crystalline solid/ hard, faintly yellow or white; glossy crystalline solid/white-yellow powder.

Its salts and esters are commonly referred to as myristates or tetradecanoates.

Use & Benefits of Myristic Acid in Cosmetics:
Myristic acid is used as an emulsifier and surfactant in cosmetic products, where it gives stability and avoids the oil and water-based components of the product from getting separated.

Myristic acid thickens the emulsion and improves its stability and it forms a base in cleansing products.

Myristic acid is a good surfactant that aids in the mixing of water with dirt and oil, allowing the skin to appear clear, soft, and supple.

This cosmetic component has potent foaming properties, which makes it even better cleaning agent.

Myristic acid strengthens the skin barrier by keeping the skin's outermost layer robust and undamaged.

Myristic acid  functions as a mortar, plugging up crevices between skin cells and preventing moisture from escaping.

Myristic acid  also protects the skin, preventing pollutants, toxins, grime, and dust from affecting it.

Myristic acid mixes with water and oily dirt particles which then can be rinsed off easily from the skin.

Myristic acid may increase viscosity and can also be used to provide thickness to any cosmetic formulation.

At times, a mixture of ingredients has disagreeable color, so using an opacifying agent like myristic acid may be useful to produce uniform texture and color.

Myristic acid is used in formulations of products like soaps, cleansing products, creams, lotions, personal care, and hair care products.

Myristic acid is an excellent component for persons with dry or flaky skin for the reason that it is an emollient that softens and smoothes dry skin, It also functions as a natural moisturizer that helps in nourishing and nurturing parched skin and making it appear healthy, youthful and glowing.

Myristic acid is used in a face wash or face cleanser to provide them stability and keep the product's oil and water-based components from separating. It is used as a surfactant in cleaning solutions for the reason that it combines with water and greasy filth particles, which may then be readily washed off the skin.

Myristic acid is a saturated fatty acid. It aids in the enhancement of the viscosity of Creams, lotions, and moisturizers. Tetradecanonic acid can also be used to thicken the formulation of other products like ointment, shaving creams, and body balm.

Myristic Acid adds lather to the soap while also adding hardness. This compound has shorter carbon chains which make it water-soluble and a better cleaner. The high fatty acid content makes it good for skin moisturization and hydration.
