Les esters de sorbitane forment une classe de tensioactifs non ioniques dérivés du sorbitane par estérification d'une ou plusieurs de ses fonctions alcool ou phénol. Ils sont utilisés comme émulsifiants dans la préparation d'émulsions et de crèmes à usage pharmaceutique et cosmétique. Certains d'entre eux sont également utilisés comme additifs alimentaires. Lorsqu'ils sont utilisés seuls, ils produisent des émulsions stables de type w/O (les plus courants ont une HLB comprise entre 1,8 et 8,6), mais ils sont fréquemment utilisés avec un polysorbate dans des proportions variables pour produire des émulsions w/O ou o/W à volonté avec différentes textures et consistances.

Determine using an atomic absorption technique appropriate to the
specified level. The selection of sample size and method of sample
preparation may be based on the principles of the method described in

METHOD OF
ASSAY
Transfer about 25 g of the sample, accurately weighed, into a 500-ml roundbottom flask, add 250 ml of alcohol and 7.5 g of potassium hydroxide, and
mix. Connect a suitable condenser to the flask, reflux the mixture for 1 to 2
h, and then transfer to an 800-ml beaker, rinsing the flask with about 100 ml
of water and adding it to the beaker. Heat on a steam bath to evaporate the
alcohol, adding water occasionally to replace the alcohol, and evaporate
until the odour of alcohol can no longer be detected, Adjust the final volume
to about 250 ml with hot water. Neutralize the soap solution with dilute
sulfuric acid (1 in 2), add 10% in excess, and heat, while stirring, until the
fatty acid layer separates. Transfer the fatty acids to a 500-ml separator,
wash with three or four 20-ml portions of hot water to remove polyols, and
combine the washings with the original aqueous polyol layer from the
saponification. Extract the combined aqueous layer with three 20-ml
portions of petroleum ether, add the extracts to the fatty acid layer,
evaporate to dryness in a tared dish, cool, and weigh.
Neutralize the polyol solution with a 1 in 10 solution of potassium hydroxide
to pH 7 using a suitable pH meter. Evaporate this solution to a moist
residue, and separate the polyols from the salts by several extractions with
hot alcohol. Evaporate the alcohol extracts on a steam bath to dryness in a
tared dish, cool, and weigh. Avoid excessive drying and heating.
Assay another 25 g sample by the Sorbitan Ester Content procedure to
determine percent sorbitan ester.

Sorbitan Monoleate is a non-ionic surfactant that can be used to form oil-in-water emulsions and in combination with low HLB surfactants can form water-in-oil emulsions. EPA approved oil spill dispersant.

 

 

 


SMO is a low HLB surfactant suggested for use as a w/o emulsifier or as an o/w emulsifier for use in cosmetic formulations, oil field chemicals, plastics, household products, coatings and textiles. The liquid sorbitan ester explosive grade functions as a low HLB nonionic emulsifier. This product is well suited for a broad number of applications including emulsifier in explosives.

 

It is used as a wetting agent, coupling agent and dispersing agent in various products. In cosmetics, pharmaceutical creams, and various other personal care products, it is used as friction modifier and emulsifier. This clear viscous oily liquid is used for ethoxilation. An emulsifier Sorbitan monooleate is used as a lipophillic non-ionic surfactant, emulsifier, stabilizer for oil based lotions, ointments, in textiles as antistat, lubricant for fabric softener, sweetening agent, food additive, toothpaste, tobacco, toiletries and in cosmetics. It serves as a dispersant in oil field chemicals and as a corrosion Inhibitor. Further, it plays as an important role as excipient and intravenous osmotic diuretic in pharmaceutical fields

Span 80 is light yellow viscose oily liquid. Span 80 is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It is water/oil type emulsifier, which can be mixed with emulsifier S60 and emulsifier T60. HLB: 4.3.

Sorbitan is a mixture of isomeric organic compounds derived from the dehydration of sorbitol and is an intermediate in the conversion of sorbitol to isosorbide.[1] Sorbitan is primarily used in the production of surfactants such as polysorbates; which are important emulsifying agents, with a total annual demand of more than 10000 tons in 2012.[2]

Synthesis
Sorbitan is produced by the dehydration of sorbitol and is an intermediate in the conversion of sorbitol to isosorbide. The dehydration reaction usually produces sorbitan as a mixture of five- and six-membered cyclic ethers (1,4-anhydrosorbitol, 1,5-anhydrosorbitol and 1,4,3,6-dianhydrosorbitol)[3] with the five-membered 1,4-anhydrosorbitol form being the dominate product. The rate of formation of sorbitan is typically greater than that of isosorbide, which allows it to be produced selectively, providing the reaction conditions are carefully controlled. The dehydration reaction has been shown to work even in the presence of excess water.[4]

When used alone they produce stable water-in-oil emulsions but they are frequently used with a polysorbate in varying proportions to produce water-in-oil or oil-in-water emulsions or creams with a variety of different textures and consistencies. Sorbitan Monoleate is a non-ionic surfactant that can be used to form oil-in-water emulsions and in combination with low HLB surfactants can form water-in-oil emulsions. EPA approved oil spill dispersant.

 

 

 


SMO is a low HLB surfactant suggested for use as a w/o emulsifier or as an o/w emulsifier for use in cosmetic formulations, oil field chemicals, plastics, household products, coatings and textiles. The liquid sorbitan ester explosive grade functions as a low HLB nonionic emulsifier. This product is well suited for a broad number of applications including emulsifier in explosives.
