Uses of Disodium EDTA: 
Disodium EDTA is used as a preservative, color retention agent, antioxidant, flavoring agent for foods, anticoagulant for blood collection, and chelating agent in personal care products; 
Disodium EDTA is also used in the pulp and paper industry, in laboratory titrimetric analysis of metals, and as a therapeutic chelating agent;
Disodium EDTA is used in the agricultural, chemical, paper-pulp-board, textile processing, detergent, and cosmetics industries; 
Disodium EDTA is used as a cleaning/washing agent, disinfectant, coloring agent, complexing agent, stabilizer, and micro-nutrient;

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA 2Na) is used in detergents, liquid soap, shampoo, agricultural chemicals, fixer solution for development of color film, water cleaner, pH modifier. 
When stating the redox reaction for the polymerization of butyl benzene rubber, it is used as part of activator for the control of polymerization speed.

Disodium EDTA (Crystal) is used in when a medium-acid soluble chelating agent is required. It is recommended for detergents and cleaning products, cosmetics, inks, and food processing.

Disodium EDTA Description
Disodium EDTA is a salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (commonly known as EDTA). In cosmetics, it functions primarily as a chelating agent, meaning it prevents ingredients in a formula from binding with trace elements (mainly minerals) that can be present in water or other ingredients. This action enhances the stability of cosmetics formulas and helps makes the job of preservatives easier since EDTA ingredients bond with mineral ions that microorganisms need to remain intact. In addition to being used in makeup, skin care, and hair care products, disodium EDTA is also used as a food additive.

In several studies, the Cosmetics Review Board has found that as used in cosmetics products, disodium EDTA is safe. It was determined that in the concentrations used in commercial cosmetics, it is not a skin sensitizer nor a carcinogen, and does not penetrate through skin. The highest concentration of disodium EDTA used in leave-on products is 0.85% (for hair color sprays).

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is a molecule which complexes metal ions in aqueous environments. It is available in four neutralizations, two of which, Disodium EDTA and Tetrasodium EDTA, are commonly used in cosmetics. Generally, the choice of which product to use is determined by the intended pH of your product. Disodium EDTA is commonly used in neutral to mildly acidic products, like most creams, lotions, and neutral pH liquid soaps and shampoos.

EDTA catalyzes metal ions, which can be present in any water-based system. 

These metal ions can react with formulation ingredients causing problems, including: 

Spoilage and rancidity
Degradation of vitamins and essential fatty acids
Fragrance degradation,
Haze formation and precipitation
Poor foaming and rinsability performance.
EDTA also works synergistically with your preservative to improve preservative efficacy.

Disodium EDTA may also be called EDTA, or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, and it is used in many personal care and consumer products. It is found as a main ingredient in many commercially prepared foods, cosmetics, household cleaners and also in skin care and hair care products.

Disodium EDTA has properties that preserve and stabilize solutions. It is purifies products especially when tap water or another type of questionable water source is used. Disodium EDTA is also used as a chelating agent which effectively removes metal ions in the water. It can also control the viscosity in solutions making skin care products easy to use and apply on to the skin.
