Aminoethylethanolamine

Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) or AEEA is an organic base used in the industrial manufacture of fuel and oil additives, chelating agents, and surfactants.
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is a linear member of the ethyleneamines family, at room temperature Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is a clear, colorless, oily liquid with a weak ammonia-like odor. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is water soluble, and its dilute solutions have an alkaline pH. Building block in the manufacture of specialty corrosion inhibitors.
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is a waste chemical stream constituent which may be subjected to ultimate disposal by controlled incineration.
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is an amine and alcohol. Amines are chemical bases. They neutralize acids to form salts plus water. These acid-base reactions are exothermic. The amount of heat that is evolved per mole of amine in a neutralization is largely independent of the strength of the amine as a base. Amines may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen is generated by amines in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is hygroscopic.
Atmospheric Standards of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
This action promulgates standards of performance for equipment leaks of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturing Industry (SOCMI). The intended effect of these standards is to require all newly constructed, modified, and reconstructed SOCMI process units to use the best demonstrated system of continuous emission reduction for equipment leaks of VOC, considering costs, non air quality health and environmental impact and energy requirements. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is produced, as an intermediate or a final product, by process units covered under this subpart.
Human Toxicity Excerpts for Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Soldering flux used in the electronics industry can cause both irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. Irritant dermatitis is more common than allergic contact dermatitis. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE), a constituent of some fluxes, is a sensitizer. Dermatitis tends to start over the periungal area and spread to the finger shafts and sometimes the wrists. The use of cotton gloves by workers appeared to aggravate the problem.
Environmental Fate/Exposure Summary of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
If released to the atmosphere, Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) will exist primarily in the vapor-phase where it will degrade rapidly by reaction with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals (estimated half-life of 3.3 hours). Physical removal from the atmosphere may be possible through wet deposition. If released to soil or water, Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) will probably biodegrade. The results of one biodegradation screening study have indicated that Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) biodegrades readily. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) can exist in both the neutral and protonated forms in environmental media; the neutral form may leach readily; the mobility of the protonated form is not known. Occupational exposure occurs through skin contact.
Artificial Pollution Sources of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Small amounts of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) may be present in wastewater streams generated at sites of industrial manufacture and use as chemical intermediate(1,SRC).
Environmental Fate of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
TERRESTRIAL FATE: The results of one biodegradation screening study have indicated that Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) biodegrades readily(1); therefore, biodegradation may be an important transformation process in soil(SRC). Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) has a pKa of 7.21(2) that indicates it can exist in both the protonated and neutral forms in environmental media; neutral Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is expected to leach readily. However, the mobility of protonated Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) in soil can not be predicted without additional experimental data.
AQUATIC FATE: The results of one biodegradation screening study have indicated that aminoethyl ethanolamine biodegrades readily(1); therefore, biodegradation may be an important transformation process in water. Aquatic bioconcentration and volatilization are not expected to be important because of the high solubility of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE).
ATMOSPHERIC FATE: Based upon a vapor pressure of 8.19X10-4 mm Hg at 25 °C(1), Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is expected to exist primarily in the vapor-phase in the ambient atmosphere(2,SRC). It will degrade rapidly in the atmosphere by the vapor-phase reaction with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals with an estimated half-life of 3.3 hr(3,SRC). Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is miscible with water(4), therefore, physical removal from air by wet deposition (dissolution in clouds, rainfall, etc) is possible(SRC).
Environmental Biodegradation of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) was found to be easily biodegraded (greater than 30% theoretical BOD in two weeks of incubation) using the Japanese MITI protocol(1).
Environmental Abiotic Degradation of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
The rate constant for the vapor-phase reaction of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals has been estimated to be 1.16X10-10 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C which corresponds to an atmospheric half-life of about 3.3 hrs at an atmospheric concn of 5X10+5 hydroxyl radicals per cu cm(1,SRC).
Based upon an estimated log Kow of -1.39(1), the BCF for Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) can be estimated to be 0.05 from a recommended regression-derived equation(2,SRC). This estimated BCF value indicates that bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is not important. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is miscible in water(3) which also indicates that bioconcentration is not important(SRC).
Soil Adsorption/Mobility of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Based upon an estimated log Kow of -1.39(1), the Koc for Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) can be estimated to be 4.2 from applicable regression-derived equation(2,SRC). This estimated Koc value indicates that aminoethylethanolamin is very highly mobile in soil(3). Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is miscible in water(4) which also indicates high soil mobility(SRC). However, Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) has a pKa of 7.21(5) that indicates it can exist in both the protonated and neutral forms in environmental media; the Koc estimate above applies to neutral Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE), but not to protonated Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)(SRC). The mobility of protonated Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) in soil can not be predicted without additional experimental data(SRC).
Volatilization from Water/Soil of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
The Henry's Law constant for Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) can be estimated to be 1.10X10-13 atm-cu m/mole using a structure estimation method(1,SRC). This value of Henry's Law constant indicates that Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is essential non-volatile from water(2); therefore, volatilization from water will not be important(SRC).
Probable Routes of Human Exposure of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Occupational exposure to Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) occurs through dermal contact(1).
NIOSH (NOES Survey 1981-1983) has statistically estimated that 7,385 workers are potentially exposed to Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) in the USA(1). NIOSH (NOHS Survey 1972-1974) has statistically estimated that 1,558 workers are potentially exposed to Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) in the USA(2).

Reactivity Profile of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is an amine and alcohol. Amines are chemical bases. They neutralize acids to form salts plus water. These acid-base reactions are exothermic. The amount of heat that is evolved per mole of amine in a neutralization is largely independent of the strength of the amine as a base. Flammable gaseous hydrogen is generated by amines in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is hygroscopic.
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) (CAS 111-41-1) is a linear molecule with primary and secondary amine groups. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) appears as a colorless liquid, but with slightly higher viscosity than ethylenediamine (EDA) and diethylenetriamine (DETA).
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is an amine with unique characteristics and is commonly used as an intermediate in the fabrication of detergents, fabric softeners, chelates, fuel additives and coatings.
History of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Air samples collected on tubes containing XAD-2 resin coated with NITC were received at SLTC along with a request for analysis for Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE). This compound was collected on the same media used in OSHA Method 601, for diethylene triamine, so those extraction and analytical parameters were used as a starting point for Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE). The Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) was found to readily derivatize with the NITC to form a stable derivative. The mobile phase of 80:20 isooctane:isopropanol gave a separation for the Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) peak from interferences from the NITC. The samples were extracted with dimethylformamide (DMF), with an extraction efficiency mean of 99.7% for the concentration range of 20.7 to 413 µg/tube. The retention efficiency study showed no Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) on the back up section of the spiked tube or back up tube, for tubes spiked with 413.2 µg through which10-L humid air had been drawn. The storage study showed no loss for samples stored for up to 14 days under both refrigerated and ambient conditions.
Toxic effects of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is a moderate skin irritant, severe eye irritant, and moderate mucous membrane irritant. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is moderately toxic by ingestion, skin contact, and inhalation. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) can cause skin sensitization and chemical asthma.
Work exposure of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is used in textile finishing compounds such as antifuming agents, dyestuffs, and cationic surfactants. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is used in resins, rubber products, insecticides, and medical formulations. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is listed in EPA's HPV (high production volume) list of chemicals produced and/or imported into the United States.
Physical properties and other descriptive information of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
There are no known compounds which will severely interfere with the collection of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE). Other primary and secondary amines will collect on this medium, and form derivatives with the NITC, affecting the ability of the tube to collect Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE), so sampling time should be adjusted if high concentrations of amines are expected.
Standard preparation of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Freshly prepare two stock standards. A stock standard of 2 mg/mL may be prepared by a) weighing out about 50 mg of NITC in a 10-mL flask, b) weigh out 20 mg Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) by placing the drops on top of the NITC in the flask, and c) weigh out about 50 mg more NITC on top of the Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE), making sure that the Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is covered on all sides by the NITC. Allow the Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) to react with the NITC for at least 1 hour before adding the DMF. Partially fill the volumetric flask with DMF and allow to sit 30 minutes to begin dissolving the derivative, then swirl the contents until all of the solids are dissolved, and fill to the mark with DMF. Do not place the flask in a sonic bath to try to get the derivative to go into solution, as it will destroy the derivative. There must always be an excess of the NITC for the derivative to be completely formed. There are two amine groups which will react with the NITC, so this mole ratio must be used in calculating the amount of NITC to be added. For example, the amount of NITC needed for the above stock standard would be calculated:
20 mg Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) × (NITC MW=185.25/AEEA MW=104.15) ×2 = 71 mg
This invention relates to a method for the production of a dimerized amine feed stock. More particularly, this invention relates to a method for dimerizing monoethanolamine in order to provide a high yield of 2-(2-a1ninoethylamin0)-ethanol, hereinafter referred to as Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE).
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is useful for a variety of purposes, such as those related to the general areas of textile treating and sequestering. In particular, Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) has been used as an intermediate in the preparation of cationic textile softening agents, sequestering agents, etc. As shown, for example, by Wilkes U.S. Patent No. 2,479,657, it can also be used as a raw material for the preparation of pipenazine.
Theoretically, Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) could be prepared with comparative ease by reacting monoethanolamine with itself in accordance with .the following equation:
HgNCHzCHzOH H NCH CHzOH However, as shown by the Wilkes patent and other references, Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) can also be converted to piperazine by the elmination of water as shown in the following equation:
Normally, the conversion of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) to piperazine is accomplished in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. It is also known to prepare piperazine from monoethanolamine as shown, for example, by Moss et al. U.S. Patent No. 3,151,115 and Moss et al. U.S. Patent No. 3,037,023. Both of these conversions are normally accomplished in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst such as a nickel, cobalt or copper hydrogenation catalyst. As a consequence, although it is known that Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is present in a 'by-product form when monoethanolamine is converted to piperazine, the reaction of monoethano-lamine with itself over a hydrogenation catalyst has been considered a poor approach to 3,383,417 Patented May 14, 1968 significant production of aminoe'thylethanolamine because of the propensity of the product to cyclize.
It has now been surprisingly discovered, however, that monoethanolamine can be reacted with itself in the presence of a selected class of hydrogenation catalysts under reaction conditions, as hereinafter defined more fully, to provide the aliphatic dimer, Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE), rather than the heterocyclic dimer, piperazine.
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is a linear molecule with primary and secondary amine groups. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is a colorless liquid, with slightly higher viscosity than EDA and DETA. Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is used as an intermediate in the fabrication of detergents, fabric softeners, chelates, fuel additives and coatings.

Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is a single component product, with minimal ethylenediamine impurity.
The product Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is water-soluble, clear, colorless, and slightly viscous. An ammonia-like odor is typical of the product.
The principal hazards that arise in working with Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) are those associated with similar organic amines; namely, a corrosive action on skin and eyes. Precautions should be taken to prevent contact with these parts of the body such as by use of protective clothing and chemical goggles. If contact occurs, immediately flush the exposed area with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Eye exposures should be examined by a physician. Contaminated clothing should be laundered before reuse. If ingestion occurs, do not induce vomiting. Have the individual drink a large amount of water (or milk, if it is readily available) and transport them to a medical facility immediately.
HANDLING AND STORAGE of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
In order to maintain the high degree of purity with which Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is manufactured and shipped, the following storage and handling considerations are recommended:
Dry Inert Gas Blanket
This product should be stored under a dry inert gas blanket, such as nitrogen, to minimize contamination resulting from contact with air and water.
Materials of Construction of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
If slight coloration of the ethyleneamine is acceptable, storage tanks may be made of carbon steel or black iron, provided they are free of rust and mill scale. However, if the amine is stored in such tanks, color may develop due to iron contamination. If iron contamination cannot be tolerated, tanks constructed of types 304 or 316 stainless steel should be used. (Note: Because they are quickly corroded by amines, do not use copper, copper alloys, brass, or bronze in tanks or lines.) Recommended storage construction for Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) is stainless steel.
Storage Temperature of Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE)
Aminoethylethanolamine (AMINOETHYLETHANOLAMINE) has a pour point of -38°C. To avoid freezing, the product should be maintained above this temperature. At temperatures below 5°C, viscosity becomes so high that the product cannot be easily pumped.

Aminoetiletanolamin (AEEA, aminoethylethanolamine)in standart hazırlanması
20 mg Aminoetiletanolamin (AEEA, aminoethylethanolamine) × (NITC MW = 185.25 / AEEA MW = 104.15) × 2 = 71 mg

ABD Patenti No. 3,037,023.

20 mg aminoéthyléthanolamine (AEEA, aminoetiletanolamin, aminoethylethanolamine) × (PM NITC = 185,25 / MW AEEA = 104,15) × 2 = 71 mg
